We're an advisory built on trust. That starts with being straightforward about what information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do — and don't do — with it.
The short version
We collect the information you give us so we can help you evaluate solar for your home. We share that information with installers we recommend to you, only after you've decided to move forward with them. We do not sell your information. We do not share it with third parties unrelated to your project. You can ask us to delete it at any time.
Information we collect
Information you provide directly
When you submit our intake form, request an assessment, or otherwise contact us, you give us information such as:
- Your name, email address, and phone number
- Your property address and ZIP code
- Your utility provider and approximate monthly electric bill
- Your homeownership status
- Your financing preferences and other comments you share
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, ours uses basic web analytics to understand how visitors use the site (pages visited, time on page, general geographic region). This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
How we use your information
We use the information you provide for the following purposes, and only these:
- To respond to your assessment request and follow up on next steps
- To evaluate whether solar is a fit for your home and recommend appropriate installers
- To collect bids from installers on your behalf (with your knowledge and consent)
- To support you through the installation, interconnection, and Illinois Shines REC application process
- To answer your questions throughout the life of your solar system
Who we share it with
The only third parties who see your information are Illinois Shines-approved solar installers we recommend to you, and only after you've authorized us to share your details with them for the purpose of obtaining a bid. We share only what's necessary for them to prepare an accurate quote.
We may also share information when required by law (for example, in response to a valid subpoena) or to protect rights and safety. We will tell you if this happens unless legally prohibited.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as it's useful to support your relationship with us — typically the life of your solar system, so we can help you with warranty questions, REC payments, and any other ongoing needs. If you decide not to proceed with solar, we keep your information for one year and then delete it, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- Ask us what information we have about you
- Ask us to correct any inaccurate information
- Ask us to delete your information from our systems
- Opt out of any non-essential communications from us
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@illinoiscleanenergy.org or call (309) 225-8899. We'll respond within 30 days.
Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) on our website and secure storage for our records. That said, no system is perfectly secure. We will notify you promptly if we ever learn of a breach affecting your information.
Children
Our services are intended for property owners aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and, when appropriate, notify you by email. Continued use of our services after changes means you accept the updated policy.
